Laurence  Jenkell

1965

Laurence Jenkell Born in 1965 in Bourges (France) Lives and works in Mougins - France Fascinated by the alchemy of sugar, Laurence JENKELL declines sweets to the infinity and sublimates candies by keeping the idea of sugar which melts... Attracted by the large range of candies, not only the shape itself but also transformations and combinations available, JENKELL declines the substance’s metamorphosis on canvas. She materializes the desire with the object and sublimates the candy by sculpturing huge candies in aluminium sand cast. The entire work of JENKELL is a phenomenon of crystallization towards materialized desire into an object : the candy itself either desire, object or pleasure reminding feelings of sweet childlike memories and attracting our senses as bees are attracted to honey. Also the object sublimated by the object : the Jenkell's wrappings ! Indeed the artist developped a new technic "jenkellising" any object just by draping and twisting plexiglas into a wrapped candy !
